Hi, I'm Robert Simpson. I work at Harvard Medical School in the Office of Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership as a K-12 Science Curriculum Specialist. We design engaging STEM programs for Boston and Cambridge public school students. Our programs are part of Harvard's commitment to provide educational outreach opportunities to local students.
I'm interested in how mobile devices can be used to expand learning opportunities for today's hyper-connected students. I manage the Hinton Scholars AP Biology program serving a hundred Boston High School students. One challenge students face while taking a rigorous science courses is how to reflect on their own learning and develop the skills to ask good questions. Based on my previous instructional design course work, I want to build and test mobile-friendly interactive modules that students can access on their mobile devices. The Digital BioLab Trailer gives a good introduction. I'm new to the world of web applications programming.
I'm comfortable designing front-end web solutions with html editors such as Adobe Dreamweaver and hand-coding html using text editors such as Sublime Text 3. I've taken introductory courses in Java and Javascript through the Harvard Extension School. I completed the Adobe Generation Professional: App Design bootcamp in June 2015. I learned how Adobe Brackets, JQuery, CSS, and PhoneGap Build can be used to build and test mobile apps. I highly recommend the next free online course running Jun 27, 2016 - Aug 12, 2016 on the Adobe Education Exchange.
I use an Apple MacBook Pro laptop running OS 10.10.5.
I'm a Harvard Extension School ALM candidate studying Digital Media Design. I'm also an Adobe Education Leader.
